Interior Design Summer Camp: iDesign

The Department of Interior Design in the Ҵýapp at Mississippi State University offers a five-day, four-night residential summer workshop, iDesign, to provide a glimpse into the role and impact of design and creativity involved in the field of interior design.

The Interior Design Department in the Ҵýapp at Mississippi State University offers a five day/four night residential summer camp, idesign, to provide a glimpse into the role and impact of design and creativity involved in the field of Interior Design. Design strategies and projects are developed in a positive atmosphere to help students understand both the challenges and opportunities afforded by careers in design.


iDesign is open to high school students (rising juniors and seniors) and incoming college freshmen.

Application and Cost

The total cost of the workshop is $700. This includes a non-refundable application fee of $100, which must be included at the time of registration. Upon notification of acceptance to the iDesign camp, the remaining $600 fee is due by May 15.

If for some unforeseen reason, you need to cancel your attendance, you will receive 100% of your $600 prior to May 15 and 50% prior to May 31. No refund will be available after May 31.

Camp fee Includes instruction by Ҵýapp Interior Design faculty and students, t-shirt, supplies, room and board in Ҵýapp residence hall and university fees for health services, equipment, facilities and libraries.

Camp Topics

Careers in Design. Explore the professional practice of interior design and what careers are available with an interior design degree.

Design Education. Student counselors will share their experiences as design majors and how they spend their time in college.

Space Planning. Create furniture plans for a residential interior for a specific client, applying principles and elements of design.

Finishes and Materials. Select materials and finishes for the residential project using our interior design library.

Sketching and Rendering. Apply freehand sketching and perspective drawing to understand the built environment. Learn how to render with markers and pencils using a quick and fun method.

Lighting Design. Explore the importance of natural and artificial light for physical and psychological health. using our Ҵýapp Lighting Application Center to investigate lighting effects.

Exhibit Design and Preparation. Create a student work exhibit to share with family and friends.
