Fred Carl, Jr. Carl Small Town Center

Founded in 1979, the Fred Carl, Jr.ÌýSmall Town Center at Mississippi State University is an advocate of meaningful design for small towns. We provide planning and design services to communities and conduct research that seeks to provide solutions to problems faced by communities across the nation.

The Small Town Center is comprised of architects, planners, and students who work to improve the built environment in the communities in which they work.

TheÌýGulf Coast Community Design Studio (GCCDS)Ìýis a professional service and outreach program ofÌýMississippi State University’s College of Architecture, Art + Design.Ìý GCCDS was established in Biloxi, Mississippi in response to Hurricane Katrina to provide architectural design services, landscape and planning assistance, educational opportunities and research to organizations and communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.Ìý

GCCDSÌýworks through close, pragmatic partnerships with local organizations andÌýcommunities in and beyond the three Mississippi’s coastal counties, putting professional expertise to work in order to shape vibrant and resilient Gulf Coast communities.

Jackson Community Design Center

The Jackson Community Design Center (JCDC), located in the School of Architecture’s fifth-year Jackson Center, is an urban research laboratory with a mission to support urban revitalization in Jackson. Initiated in 1996 by an endowment from The Phil Hardin Foundation, the Design Center adapts to the needs of the city and provides research, planning and technical assistance to associations working toward making a viable, healthy urban environment. The JCDC also hosts public educational programs, community engagement workshops and visiting lecturers.
